CORINNA MULLIN is a Lecturer in Comparative and International Politics at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), with reference to the Middle East. Her current research involves comparative international political theory. She is the author of Constructing Political Islam as the New Other: America and its Post-War on Terror Politics, London: I.B. Tauris (forthcoming), in which she examines the epistemological, historical and ideological roots and manifold contemporary expressions of the discourse on political Islam in the US. Dr Mullin demonstrates how this discourse has come to perform both an identity- constructing/affirming role, as well as a politically expedient, rhetorical justificatory function in mainstream political thought and action vis-à-vis the Muslim world.
