ZYAD EL-ELAIMY is a lawyer and Member of the Egyptian Parliament. He is a founding member of the Egyptian Social Democratic Party, established in March 2011. Zyad is also a founding member of the Coalition of Youth of the January Revolution, which formed during the eighteen days of protest which led to the toppling of Hosni Mubarak. Zyad was an elected member of the Coalition’s Executive Board, representing the Al-Baradei Youth Support Campaign. He was one of the key youth activists organising and mobilising demonstrators in Tahrir Square. He also participated in negotiating and disseminating strategies such as the holding of weekly demonstrations after Mubarak’s departure. Both in protests and in parliament since, Zyad has been an active figure in relaying the revolution’s popular demands and challenging the ruling military council.
